Azerbaijan Notes on countries that start with A
The letter A opens the alphabetical list of countries, and Afghanistan comes first in English. Andorra is a tiny state in the Pyrenees between France and Spain. Angola is on the southwest coast of Africa, and Algeria is the largest country in Africa by area.
Argentina has a light blue and white flag with the Sun of May in the center, while Australia shows the Union Jack and the Southern Cross. Austria has one of the oldest national flags still in use, three horizontal stripes of red, white and red.
Not every entry is a country. Anguilla and American Samoa are territories, Aruba is a constituent country of the Netherlands, and Antarctica is a continent with no government of its own; its flag is unofficial.
Fun fact: Afghanistan, Albania and Algeria are the first three UN members in English alphabetical order.
