Qatar is a small peninsula country on the Persian Gulf, bordering Saudi Arabia. Its capital is Doha. The country is rich in natural gas and hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
The flag is maroon and white, divided by a serrated edge with nine white points. The shade of maroon is often called Qatar maroon, and it is one of the few national flags that uses this color. Its neighbor Bahrain has a similar flag, but in red with five white points.
Q is a rare first letter for place names in English, and Qatar is the only country name that begins with it.
