Countries That Start With Z
Two countries start with Z: Zambia and Zimbabwe. Both are UN member states in southern Africa, and their flags are shown below.
Flags of countries starting with Z
Zambia and Zimbabwe
The two Z countries are neighbors, separated by the Zambezi River and the Victoria Falls. Both gained independence from Britain, Zambia in 1964 and Zimbabwe in 1980.
Zambia is landlocked, with its capital in Lusaka. Its green flag has an orange eagle above three vertical stripes of red, black and orange.
Zimbabwe has a flag with seven horizontal stripes in green, yellow, red and black, with a white triangle holding a red star and the Zimbabwe Bird, a national symbol based on carvings found at Great Zimbabwe.
Fun fact: Zambia and Zimbabwe are the only countries in the world whose names start with Z, and both flags show a bird.
Z is also the last letter in English, so these two come last in any alphabetical list of countries, after Yemen.
