Flags of Europe Quiz

Can you name all 57 flags of Europe? Choose the country for each flag, from the easy ones to the hard look-alikes.

Question 1Score: 0
Which country's flag is this?

Tips for recognizing European flags

Many European flags are either tricolors or crosses. For stripes, memorize the pairs: France (vertical blue-white-red), Italy (green-white-red), Ireland (green-white-orange), the Netherlands (horizontal red-white-blue) and Luxembourg (the same with light blue). Horizontal tricolors include Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Estonia.

If you see an off-center cross, it is Nordic: Denmark is white on red, Sweden yellow on blue, Finland blue on white, Norway is red with a blue cross edged in white, and Iceland reverses it with a red cross edged in white on blue. The tough cases are Romania versus Andorra, Russia versus Slovakia and Slovenia, and Poland versus Monaco. See the European flags for full details.

How the quiz works

Each question shows one flag and four answer buttons. Pick one: the right answer is highlighted, and if you missed, the quiz tells you which country it was and links to its page. Your score is shown while you play, and the final result appears after the last flag. There is no timer. The 57 flags come in a new random order every time, so you can replay as often as you like.

How to learn European flags fast

Split the continent into three piles: Nordic crosses, vertical tricolors and horizontal tricolors. That covers many of the flags. The rest are mostly bicolors and flags with coats of arms. Then drill the pairs: the Netherlands and Luxembourg (Luxembourg is the lighter blue), Romania, Andorra and Moldova (all blue, yellow and red), Ireland and Italy, and Poland and Monaco (Monaco has red on top). For Slovakia, Slovenia and Russia, look for the coat of arms on the hoist side: Russia's flag has none. Study the European flags first, then replay.

Frequently asked questions

Are there 44 or 51 countries in Europe?

The total depends on the definition, so there is no single answer. Europe has 44 UN member states, and this quiz shows 57 flags because it also counts 13 other entries: territories and regions such as Gibraltar, the Faroe Islands and Scotland, plus Kosovo and Vatican City. It places Russia and Cyprus in Europe and Turkey in Asia.

What is the hardest European flag to guess?

There is no official ranking, but the look-alikes cause the most mistakes. Romania, Andorra and Moldova are close, the Netherlands and Luxembourg differ only in shade and ratio, and Slovakia, Slovenia and Russia share white, blue and red. Practice those pairs side by side on their flag pages before you replay the quiz.

Is there a flag quiz for all countries?

Yes. The world flag quiz at /quiz/ uses 254 flags from every continent. There are also separate quizzes for Africa, Asia, North America, Oceania, South America and the US states if you prefer to practice one region at a time.

What are the answers to the Europe flag quiz?

The answer appears right after each question. If you pick wrong, the quiz names the correct country and links to its flag page. At the end you see how many of the 57 flags you got right. You can replay the quiz as many times as you like, and each round shuffles the order again.

Where can I see the names of all European flags?

Open the European flags page at /continents/europe/ for every flag with its name. Study it first, then take the quiz to check what stuck. The page covers the same 57 countries, territories and regions.
