Green, White and Yellow Flags

Which countries have green, white and yellow flags?

Myanmar has horizontal yellow, green and red bands with a large white star in the center. Guyana is green with a gold arrowhead outlined in white, and a black-edged red triangle. Dominica has a green field with a cross of yellow, black and white stripes and a red disc holding a purple Sisserou parrot. Zimbabwe has seven stripes of green, yellow, red and black with a white triangle holding the Zimbabwe bird.

Among the African flags, the Central African Republic has four horizontal bands and a red vertical stripe, and the Comoros has four stripes and a green triangle with a crescent. The Seychelles has colored rays, and South Africa has its Y shape. All of them include red, and several have blue or black as well.

Why is this combination always joined by another color?

Green, yellow and red form the Pan-African palette, and white is often added as an accent. Because red is part of that set, most flags with green, yellow and white also include red, as in Zimbabwe, Myanmar and Guyana.

Green usually stands for land, forests or Islam, yellow for the sun or mineral wealth, and white for peace. With only these three colors, a flag lacks strong contrast against a pale sky, so designers add red or black to separate the bands clearly.

How can you tell these flags apart?
