What the Cyprus flag emoji means

The Cyprus flag emoji shows a copper-colored map of the island above two olive branches on a white field. Cypriots use it on Independence Day on 1 October, marking independence from Britain in 1960, and on Greek Independence Day on 25 March and Ochi Day on 28 October. The flag deliberately uses no blue or red so as not to favor either Greek or Turkish communities. It also appears for beach holidays.
